Until June 1, the exhibition DEVENIR TORO by Andrés Calamaro is exhibited at the GALERIA AZUR in Madrid. Curated by the Argentine critic Rodrigo Cañete based in England, this exhibition brings together a selection of small and medium format black and white photographs where mystery and emotion prevail.

In two main rooms, captures of different moments of this practice are exhibited in different formats, which the musician defines as “liturgical”, and which ranges from the pastures of the animals to the foreground factions of the bullfighters. The arena as a meeting place is also the protagonist with its audience, architecture, and different scenes of the combat.
This constructed story shows a deeply rooted cultural practice, the focus of debates and arguments for and against.
“At the center of the wars of political correctness: the sand circle of a Bullring. Another circle, this time transparent, focuses, by the artist’s hand, on a sacrificial offering but only to show fragments.” Cañete writes in the curatorial text, which in addition to a synthetic way introduces the viewer to the relationship between art history and bullfighting:
“While in Francisco de Goya, the bull as a figure of fantasy and reality brought out human stupidity; in Picasso, the tragedy became a farce and the bull was reduced to a caricature of himself.”

The Azur Gallery, which has been working for more than 12 years in the global market of modern and contemporary art, decides to bet and promote the work of Calamaro, one of the most important Argentine musicians who present us this facet of a visual artist. In parallel, on May 28, the musician’s latest album, “Dios los cría”, goes on sale with more than fifteen artists who accompany him, Alejandro Sanz, Vicentico, Julieta Venegas, and Sebastián Yatra, among others.
